MAJOR WASTEWATER DISCHARGE REPORTED TO EPD

DATE OF MAJOR SPILL: Tuesday, September 1, 2020
REPORT SUBMITTED: Wednesday, September 2, 2020
LOCATION OF MAJOR SPILL: Broken sewer pipe at the I-16 interchange at Pooler Parkway (32.083343, -81.281144). (Please note that the address used is a reference for the location of the sewer pipe.)
CAUSE OF MAJOR DISCHARGE: The cause of this major discharge was damage to a sewer pipe due to heavy machinery performing nearby land clearing.
ESTIMATED VOLUME DISCHARGED: Estimated less than 48,000 gallons
RECEIVING WATERS: Drainage ditch contiguous to municipal stormwater sewer system.
CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO MITIGATE OR REDUCE ADVERSE EFFECTS: Pipe Repaired. Wastewater contained in low lying work area. Wastewater removed from the area with vacuum truck and the affected area was neutralized with hydrated lime.
SPILL STATUS: Wastewater is no longer escaping.
